Preheat the waffle iron to medium-high heat.
Lightly grease the waffle iron with melted butter or cooking spray.
Remove the croissant dough from the can and separate into individual pieces. If perforated, gently press seams together.
For a caramelized crust, lightly sprinkle granulated sugar on both sides of the dough.
Place one piece of croissant dough in the center of the waffle iron.
Close the lid and cook for 3–5 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
Carefully remove the croffle using tongs or a spatula.
Allow to cool for 1–2 minutes to crisp up further.
Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup or desired toppings.
