Ingredients

  • 1 cup 240ml pure maple syrup
  • 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup 115g unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • Optional: Chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch 1/4 cup

Instructions

Prepare the Bacon:

  • Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until it’s crispy, around 6-8 minutes.
  • Remove from the skillet and let it cool on a paper towel-lined plate. Once cooled, chop the bacon into small pieces.

Make the Fudge Base:

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and maple syrup, mixing until fully combined.
  • Continue stirring and allow the mixture to heat up, but avoid bringing it to a boil. You should notice it starting to thicken slightly.
  • Important Step: Use a candy thermometer and cook the mixture to at least 237°F (114°C) for proper setup. This step ensures that the fudge will set correctly.

Add the Powdered Sugar:

  • Gradually sift in the powdered sugar while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Continue stirring until the mixture is smooth and glossy.

Stir in the Bacon and Flavoring:

  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped bacon, vanilla extract, and salt. This is also the point where you can add optional chopped nuts if you want extra crunch.

Chill the Fudge:

  • Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper and pour the fudge mixture into the dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly and press it down gently.
  • Refrigerate the fudge for at least 4 hours, or until fully set and firm to the touch.

Slice and Serve:

  • Once chilled, remove the fudge from the pan using the parchment paper. Cut into small squares, about 16 pieces. Enjoy the sweet and salty goodness!
